Droid Q's

I have officially decided to punt my BB Storm and am looking to make the move to a Droid X. I have until the end of this month to do it though, as my early upgrade offer expires then. My one concern is the ability to effectively and ACCURATELY sync my outlook calendar and contacts with this phone, as I have read numerous threads of people on the interwebs saying it either doesn't work right or is a PITA.

I need some real feedback from a group of people I don't consider trolls (SJ, that was your cue to exit stage left). ifonze need nawt appli.

I can't say I'm thrilled about my stuff being up in the cloud, but it's not like I have state secrets in my calendar or contacts or anything.

From a business standpoint, anything else I would need to be worried about here when switching from BB to Android? Will the 2.2 update ease some of these concerns?

Thanks!

So apparently I lost my credit card at 711 yesterday when I bought a taquito and an Arizona green tea. I tend to put the card in a random pocket after I use it sometimes and when it wasn't in my wallet later that night when I went out for dinner, I didn't think much about it. I log into my account this morning and see two charges for $105.36 at 711. Seriously who spends $105 at a 711, twice? What could you possibly buy for that with a credit card at a 711? Sort of makes me think a shady employee took it if I left it on the counter.

Ok, so I'm not sure if i should go smartphone or basic phone, ATT or Verizon, yadda yadda. I would love to have something like the iphone or droid, but are they really worth paying the extra money when you HAVE to get the $30 data per month? Do most of you guys who have it use the data, or mostly just text with people? I was recently pricing this stuff and the fact that for 2 smartphones for me and the fiance would cost roughly $150 a month for the cheapest minute plan and data made me almost sick. So here I am, looking for advice, and anything would be helpful. Trying to get the most out of a cell phone but still save some money, maybe, possibly?

odd downshift in my car

this should probably be in the car section but i wanted alot of ppl to be able to see it as the problem needs to be resolved quickly

i own a 2002 chrysler 300M and yesterday i had the transmission fluid/filter changed, when i drove it home today the downshift right around 53km/h (20-30mph?) was so rough i thought my transmission was about to blow. No other up or downshifts produced this effect. I called the mechanic and brought it back, he had absolutely no idea why it would be doing that but in the end he ended up hooking a computer thingy up to the car computer and resetting the car computer so it would re-measure fluid levels and what not. It fixed the really rough downshift but it still just isnt the same, the downshift between those 2 gears is not quite right its a little rough and it tee's me right off every time it does it.. which is of course every time i downshift at that speed.

I know absolutely nothing about cars but can anyone offer some sort of explanation or solution to try, i move back to school on sunday so it was a really bad time for this to happen

I had to use a fake ring to surprise her, since we had already discussed that we would go shopping together. I was at home for a week before she came (we worked at camp together).
Hey guys I got scammed on a windows ultimate eBay deal last March. Anyway here I am screwed and broke lol.
I found a deal online for $30 for college students with a valid .edu email address. If someone here is willing to go through the trouble of getting me the copy of W7pro for $30 I would try to compensate you with a game or something.
Cellphone Recycling Companies

Have any of you used a cellphone recycling company to get money for your old cellphones? I found a few, like Gazelle, YouRenew, etc. Seems like a good deal, and not as much of a hassle as places like Craigslist, ebay, etc. You answer a few questions, get a price quote, and send in the phone. Or have them send a prepaid box so you can send it in.

I'm trying it now, since I have a Blackberry Tour that's checking in at $86 (+ 6% coupon code 6onus) = $91.16. I'll let you know how it works out.

Just wondering if any of you have tried it, or could maybe use it for something. Some phones might only be worth $20, but hey, that's still $20 you didn't have before.

this is a pretty good video even though its pretty old but its still got a lot of good info, i've always been anti aspartame and people always tell me i'm being anal about healthy eating.. 100% of industry related studies claiming aspartame to be safe, and 100% of independent studies flagging some sort of health concern raises some eyebrows but commercial advertising is more powerful than a handful of independent studies.

OK, pretty much everyone here is experienced in buying a new computer--and all of you are gamers and have a respect for hardware. So, I'm going to start a poll to help my friend make a decision on his buying a computer.

See, they want to buy their computers at Best Buy, but I have found some good deals on NewEgg for systems with a little bit more juice (and better manufacturer's warranties). They prefer Best Buy because they can talk to people face to face if they have any trouble, and discuss computer options.

They are trying to keep to a budget at around $600 to $850 or so.

What I want is your opinion: would you buy a new laptop at Best Buy, or NewEgg?

Also, how do you guys feel about ASUS laptops vs. Toshiba?

Quote

SYDNEY (AFP) – An Australian town pulled all bottled water from its shelves Saturday and replaced it with refillable bottles in what is believed to be a world-first ban.

Hundreds of people marched through the picturesque rural town of Bundanoon to mark the first day of its bottled water ban by unveiling a series of new public drinking fountains, said campaign spokesman John Dee.

Shopkeepers ceremoniously removed the last bottles of water from their shelves and replaced them with reusable bottles that can be filled from fountains inside the town's shops or at water stations in the street.

this is pretty interesting, i'm not sure what to think about it. I applaud the idea and motivation to make change but i wonder how well it will catch on

Quick Opinions (PSU related)

OK, so I'm fixing this guy's computer and I'm fairly certain I have the problem figured out, but I figure some quick opinions here to back my own findings up would be helpful. So here's a run-down:

-Computer was crashing when playing high-end games such as Crysis (this thing can handle Crysis at Ultra High across the board)
-Memtest was successful...basically, all hardware tests (I think a total of at least 10 were run multiple times) said everything was fine
-I got it last night and loaded up Crysis with no sound, the computer never crashed, but the PSU was making a warbling noise that sounded none-too-good

So, what I'm thinking is that, at peak load, the PSU if getting over-burdened and causing instability in the system...especially after hearing the sound that thing was making...PSUs should not make squealing clicking noises when the load is cranked. It didn't crash at my house, but that could be something as simple as cleaner power at my place. He is at the limit of what that power supply can dole out. Here are some quick-specs:

-Socket 1366 i7-940 (2.93ghz)
-ASUS P6X58D - Premium board
-BluRay Drive
-6 GB of DDR3 OCZ RAM
-WiFi PCI-E board
-ATI Radeon HD 5870
-some assorted peripherals
-OCZ Vertex II SSD (flash based) at 30GB
-Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 320 GB drive

Basically, when I put his system in a PSU calculator, they suggested a minimum of 620w (with everything plugged in). He has an OCZ 650w supply in there (it is 80 plus) right now. I generally like to keep a 200w buffer, and thus would suggest an 850w supply to replace it.

When the computer crashes, it generally blue-screens out according to him, though I couldn't reproduce the problem. Well, some PSU calculators say around 550w.

My first inclination was heat, since it would just shut off on him sometimes (and he said that there would be artifacts on the screen from time to time). However, I was monitoring the heat via HW Monitor, and it topped out at 55C during 45 minutes of Crysis, which is kinda hot, but shouldn't wreck the system. Most of the time while playing Crysis, it was around 45C. The GPU heat was also within tolerable levels.

The PSU, RAM, GPU, and I think the processor have all been RMAed, the problem hasn't changed. I suppose it COULD be something with the motherboard, but since the PSU was making that crazy noise (it wasn't loud, just strange), which sounded strained to me, I'm leaning toward that route. I'm fairly certain (now) that it's not heat.

I'm also thinking it might be drive conflict of some sort of drive conflict as it never crashes when he's accessing stuff from the C: drive (the SSD), but only when he's playing games stored on the Seagate. That would be strange indeed.

Help with a webpage

So being a programmer of 5 years, I feel a bit silly asking this. What is the latest and greatest way to throw a page together. Nothing very complex, fairly simple blog entry, like the consumerist or techdirt. I have the URL and hosting, but I honestly don't know much about the latest back end stuff for webpages. I have coded in PHP, asp and used sql in the past, but I get the feeling there are easier ways. I see things like joomla, but Im a bit skeptical. Is that worth even using? Any advice or points in the right direction are appreciated.

Word to the wise

When your thinking of digging in your backyard, ya know like if you want to build a deck, or in my case add some stairs to an already existing deck, call the "Call Before You Dig Hotline" I had gone to Lowes with my brother in law, we bought a few hundred bucks worth of stuff i was going to need for my steps, and then we got to work measuring etc etc for where they would be. So i start using post diggers in the spots we had marked, which btw are a good 10-15 feet away from the rear of the house, in the middle of the yard basically. Well after i have half of one hole done i hit a huge rock, and with nothing to break it up with yet i decide ill just start on the second hole for the time being. Well about a foot down i hit something, and i notice its black. It was my phone line. I'm lucky i even have internet right now because i have DSL and i guess its running on a separate line or something. Anyway now the phone company cant come fix the line until Tuesday, and on Wednesday I'm having all of the lines in my yard marked so i know exactly where they are. The requirement for electric lines is that they be at least 36" deep, and we're digging to 30" for the posts. I'm not risking hitting the electric lines and dying. So if you ever think about digging, even in the middle of the stupid yard, make sure u have the lines marked first. It's free so theres no reason to not do it. That's my fun story of the day, enjoy.
